The All-Day Sakai workshop consists of four approximately two-hour sessions, with a break between each part.
Part I: Getting Started in USA Online/Sakai will introduce you to the basics of USA’s new collaboration and learning environment. In this part of the workshop, you will learn about your Workspace, work with the Site Editor to create project sites and courses, and learn how to set up a Syllabus, import Resources and activate the Gradebook.
Part 2: Creating and Delivering Content. In this part, you will practice using the core tools for creating Assignments and Lessons. You will get hands-on practice in creating and grading assignments. You will learn how to create lessons that link to files from the Resources tool as well as link to URLs, existing assignments or threaded discussions.
Part 3: Assessment and Grading Mechanics focuses on the Test and Quizzes tool as well as the Gradebook. You will practice creating tests and quizzes with different options. You will also learn how to create question pools and create tests that pull randomized questions from a question pool. You will learn how to set up and organize your Gradebook using categories.
Part 4: Working with Communication Tools. In this part, you will learn about the many tools that facilitate communication and interaction within a project or course site. You will learn how to set up the Calendar, post Announcements, use Forums, send email from the site, and set up an online meeting.
