Risk management is used in many fields, including project management, cyber security, insurance, and business. Risk management is particularly useful in any endeavor in which the possibility of failure is significant. In this presentation, we will describe how two instructors are using risk management as a way of overcoming obstacles that threaten the success of integrating team-based learning as an effective pedagogy used in their school. Some of the risks addressed by the instructors include course mismanagement, student resistance/attitudes, and fall-off of administrative support. The methodology and the details of the process will be discussed. Risk management could be used by others who have identified potential risks to the success of an adopted teaching innovation.
