Inverted Teaching or “Flipping” the Classroom
Christy Price, Center for Academic Excellence, Dalton State College
What’s All the Fuss About the FLIP? Flipping over the Inverted Classroom It’s what faculty everywhere are talking about! It’s revolutionizing our teaching, enhancing our effectiveness, and increasing student achievement of learning outcomes! One of the hottest trends in teaching and learning in higher education right now is the "Inverted Classroom." The traditional instructional model typically involves students being introduced to the material via their instructor, while the inverted classroom structure requires students take responsibility for directly interacting with the content prior to class typically via multimedia and assigned readings. The inverted classroom frees up time in class to be spent on processing, application, collaboration, and authentic problem solving. During this workshop we will overview the theory behind the practice and discuss strategies for inverting our classes.
