Creating the “aha!” Moment in your Online Course
Karen Shader, eTroy, Troy University
Understanding the student learner is a core to designing, developing and teaching an online course. Student learning and success is most likely when the characteristics of the learner are considered. In online programs, the typical student is an adult learner with prior learning experiences, life experiences, a family and a job. Transformative Learning is an ideal model for online programs with adult learners. The application of this model requires for the student to use prior interpretations of an experience to develop new perspectives and to guide future actions. During this presentation, Dr. Karen Shader will present ten steps to Transformative learning, suggested teaching strategies and the technologies that can support these activities in the online learning environment.
